Qatar-Myanmar Relations


Bilateral Relations

  • 2004: The signing of an air transport agreement between Qatar Airways and Myanmar to start flights between Doha and Yangon.

  • December 26, 2005: The Ambassadors of the State of Qatar and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar signed in New York the Agreement on Establishing Diplomatic Relations.

  • October 2012: Qatar Airways resume flights to Yangon.

  • June 28, 2013: Ooredoo wins the license to operate telecommunications services in Myanmar.

  • August 2013: The State of Qatar Assistant Foreign Minister,  Ali bin Fahad Al Hajri, leads a high level delegation for joint bilateral meetings in 26/08/2013 with the  Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

  • January 2014: A high level delegation headed by Ooredoo’s Chief Executive Director, WOQOD (Qatar Fuel), Qatar National Bank (QNB), Qatar Airways visits Myanmar for bilateral talks.

  • November 18, 2014: The Embassy of the State of Qatar was officially opened in the capital Yangon and the flag of the State was raised at the mission headquarters.

  • April 10, 2015: Accreditation of HE Hassan bin Mohammed Rafei Al-Emadi as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

  • May 2015: Union Minister of livestock fisheries and rural development stops over in Doha and meets with officials from Qatar Investment Authority and Business sector.

  • May 2015: Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar visits the State of Qatar to participate in the 15th Doha Forum.

  • March 1, 2017: HE Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani send HE Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani, the foreign minister's special envoy on counterterrorism and dispute settlements, with a message to the  State Counsellor and Foreign Minister, Aung San Suu Kyi. The special envoy also met a number of senior state officials.

  • In 2015, the volume of trade exchange between the State of Qatar and Myanmar was approximately QR 21.6 million, equivalent to US $ 5.91 million. Moreover, Qatar's exports to Myanmar in 2015 amounted to approximately QR 1.9 million, equivalent to US $ 520 thousand. The value of Qatari imports in 2015 was approximately QR 19.8 million, equivalent to US $ 5.4 million.
