The bilateral diplomatic relations began in 2005.

H.E. Jabor bin Ali Al-Dosari presented his credentials to His Excellency the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Mr. Thein Sein as non-resident ambassador of the State of Qatar to Myanmar on 28 January 2013.

Upon instructions of the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah to elevate the level of Myanmar's diplomatic relations to a resident representation, the State of Qatar had officially opened the Embassy on 10 September 2014 in Yangon.

H.E. Hassan Bin Mohammad Rafei Al-Emadi presented his credentials to His Excellency the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Mr. Thein Sein as resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on 11 April 2015.
